Consolidate Enterprise Analytics Platform
Goal: Establish a standardized One KU analytics environment that improves governance, reduces complexity and cost, and provides consistent reporting and self-service analytics capabilities across KULC and KUMC.
Business Intelligence Tool Evaluation 2026
During the spring and summer of 2026, AIRE completed a university-wide evaluation of business intelligence (BI) tools with the goal of establishing a standardized One KU analytics environment that improves governance, reduces complexity and cost, and provides consistent reporting and self-service analytics capabilities across KULC and KUMC.
The BI tool evaluation included input from member of the University Cabinet, IT leadership, Gartner Consulting, and representatives from departments across KU. Common themes included the need for stronger data governance, more standardized reporting and analytics capabilities, reduced tool complexity, and a unified One KU data architecture.
Several themes emerged consistently across stakeholder groups:
- Data governance and data quality are more important than any individual BI tool.
- Analytics and reporting should be standardized wherever possible across One KU.
- Self-service capabilities remain important but must be balanced with governance and security.
- Existing tool sprawl creates unnecessary cost, complexity, duplication, and support burden.
- A unified One KU data architecture is necessary to support future data integrations, reporting and analytics needs.
A Multi-Year One KU Data Platform Plan
