Data Classification Policy

Information Technology under the guidance of the Chief Information Security Officer and in consultation with representatives from Analytics, Institutional Research, & Effectiveness (AIRE) has drafted a proposed all-University Data Classification Policy. The draft policy is intended to update the current Lawrence Campus three-tiered classification to align with the Medical Center’s four-tiered classification, define the responsibilities and roles of individuals who handle data throughout its life cycle, and provide guidance concerning the classification of data when it is not dictated by law or regulation. Upon its approval the draft is intended to replace the existing KUL Data Classification and Handling Policy and KUMC Data Classification Policy. Additionally, the KUL Data Classification and Handling Procedures Guide is intended to be reviewed to align with the new classification after transition to the new four-tiered classification has completed.
